Where Does Your Salt Come From?

By Jennifer Duty

It is an interesting question. Where does any of our food come from? This can be really hard to answer.

Do you shop at Farmers Markets? Most Farmers Markets require that you have to grow it or make it in order to sell it at the Farmers Market. So that is a plus. Most of your growers or makers will be local. Don’t be afraid to ask. It is your dollar and your health.

Do you shop at a co-op? Most co-ops support local, and organic growers and makers. Most co-ops have signs explaining who grows the food and where it comes from. Do your research. Again, these are your dollars and probably your neighbor's livelihood.

Salt is a tricky one. Salt can be mined, solar evaporated, or fire evaporated. What does that all mean? Is it coming from next door or is being shipped from a land far, far away?

Pacific Flake is California owned and California made fire evaporated, flake, sea salt. Pacific Flake will be educating people and looking for buyers and distribution at the California Food Expo.

The California Food Expo is September 8-September 10, 2019, at the Fresno Convention Center.

The California Food Expo is the only trade show exclusively for California food and beverage. It is designed to highlight our state’s rich and diverse food culture.
